LESSON:

Heather Schroeder taught a beautiful lesson about the grace of God.

She explained that Grace is the gift to take the natural man and turn it around to be be a more Christlike. A time when Heavenly Father intervenes in our lives to make us better, or to help us in a way that we are unable to help ourselves.

Opportunities arise all of the time in our day that allow us to open the door and invite Heavenly Father to intervene in our lives.  When we pray, we can ask for His assistance.  When we go to the temple, we can ask for our weaknesses to become our strengths.

The Grace of God allows us to submit patiently and cheerfully to our trials.  When we are going through trials, that is when the sustaining power of the atonement is put into play in our lives.  We do all that we can, endure to the end, and then, because the Savior intervened for us, our Heavenly Father steps in and sustains us through events that would be unbearable under any other circumstances.  This can be trials of small or large magnitude; Heavenly Father wants to help us, and wants us to come to him.

I was thinking about the word 'submit.'  It has a negative connotation to me generally.  It feels like 'giving in,' or 'giving up.'  This is not what Heavenly Father is asking of us.  He wants us to submit to His will and His eternal perspective - we can do that!

Mosiah 23:20-22

And it came to pass that they did multiply and prosper exceedingly in the land of Helam; and they built a city, which they called the city of Helam.

Nevertheless the Lord seeth fit to achasten his people; yea, he trieth their bpatience and their faith.

Nevertheless—whosoever putteth his atrust in him the same shall be blifted up at the last day. Yea, and thus it was with this people.

Amy Nuttal commented that while she'd prefer to avoid trials, that seems to be the only way that she truly learns and grows.  I think this is common for all of us, and learning to submit to the Lord and ask for His blessings and grace is a life long process.  Hopefully, we won't have to be 'chastened' to much.

Throughout the lesson, Sister Schroeder expressed her deep love for each of the sisters in the ward, and truly mourned for the trials that sisters are experiencing.  Sister Schroeder, we love you too.

Enjoy the beautiful sunshine, and have a fantastic day ladies!
