I attended a fantastic conference last month, and one of the speakers was a former upper level executive with Starbucks. One of the things he talked about was being happy and satisfied even when things aren't going so hot. He and his wife made a '100 list' while they were on their honeymoon, and every year since (40+), they have celebrated their anniversary by updating their 100 list. The list is 100 things you would like to do or accomplish in the next 4 years - it can be anything at all -- short range, long range, large, small, crazy, not-so-crazy, etc.
Each year, you update the list, crossing off things that you feel you accomplished, and replacing those with new goals or dreams. The idea is that even though you may not reach every goal, you can accomplish many, many things when you actually write them down as goals, and there is a sense of satisfaction and progress that you feel rather than focusing on the things you have not been able to achieve. He said that they actually achieved so much more than they would have ever thought possible.
We all want to be happy, and feel like we have accomplished things that are important to us. All lofty goals include small, incremental accomplishments along the way - so why not write them all down, and then check them off???
I have a form set up for this (of course) - send me an email if you want me to send you a copy.
