It will also be very sad to not spend as much time with Denise, Mindy, Jen and Carol as they move on to other callings within other organizations. We love all four of you so much, and I have personally grown so much as a result of my interactions with all four of these beautiful sisters.

Marie Gale's daughter lives in the same town as Kathi Knowles (formerly of our ward). They have gotten to be very good friends, and Kathi's family is participating in Marie's daughter's wedding.

Teresa Hemminger shared excerpts from Pres. Uchtdorf's talk concerning the worth of each individual sister. We began by watching an excerpt from "Johnny Lingo." This is a movie about a Polynesian man who is buying a wife. The father thinks that his daughter isn't worth much as their society views women, and is secretly hoping he'll get one cow for her. Johnny has loved Mahana since they were children, and knows that she is worth much more. Johnny said that Mahana is an eight cow woman, and because he sees her this way, she is able to begin seeing herself that way. "Many things can happen to make a woman beautiful. But the key is what she thinks of herself."
Finding self-worth can be challenging for women, within and outside of the church. There is a standard that society and the media hold up for us letting us know how thin we should be, what color our hair should be, how successful we should be, and more. We often compound those unattainable levels of accomplishment with a self-imposed perception about how perfect we should be in the eyes of one another, and even in the eyes of our Heavenly Father. We each have weaknesses, and when life heaps trials upon us that are outside of our control, we can feel broken and lost.
Sisters, we are not alone. Our Father in Heaven knows us individually, and wants what is best for us. He can provide us comfort when we are not feeling loved, and can bring peace amidst the storm. We all need a shoulder to lean on at times, we need friends, and we need acceptance. We are not alone. We have one another, and there is safety in numbers. Our ward is filled to the brim with amazing women who I look up to every day. Sisters who love me and my family. We love you too. Let's rise to the call and reach out to the women within our ward. We are truly sisters in the gospel - and that makes us family. We are friends, co-workers, and we are one another's cheerleaders.
