We were reminded that there is a need for freezer meals right now. You can drop meals off in the church kitchen freezer or leave them with Chris Dinnel.
We were reminded that the ward and stake mission plan asks us to have someone into our home once per month to fellowship and friendship. We then talked about the difference between friendshipping someone (more of an assignment) and actually being a friend - which requires an emotional investment.
The lesson was given by Abby Davis: "Taking Up the Cross". This was a very interesting and thought provoking lesson for all of us. Abby is a new convert to the church, and wondered how to respond when her non-member friends and family ask her why we do not wear crosses as a symbol of our Christianity. As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we do not lay our faith on the mortal death of the Savior, but in the gift of Eternal Life and the resurrection that followed.
We were asked this question: "How can I take up the Christian cross daily?"
Some answers were: treat others with kindness; look for the good in others; study the scriptures and keep the commandments; teach our children faith; set good examples of followers of Christ; have courage to share the gospel and keep the commandments.
Abby also encouraged us to get out of our comfort zones and be willing to share the gospel with those around us. This means that we need to be good neighbors and friends so that opportunities will present themselves.
Sister Davis' sweet testimony couldn't help but touch each sister in the room.
